Silvana Paternostro, Vera List Center fellow in 1997, is a Colombian-born writer and journalist. She is the author of In The Land of God and Man: Confronting Our Sexual Culture, shortlisted for a PEN Award for First Non- Fiction; My Colombian War: A Journey Through the Country I Left Behind and Solitude & Company: An Oral History of Gabriel Garcia Márquez. She received the Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Award for her work about Cuba. Her work centers on issues of gender, civil conflict, authoritarianism, censorship, storytelling, and power, mostly in Latin America. She lives in New York City.
