Discussion – Art as Critique: The Case of Cuba
Oct 14, 1998
6:00–8:00pm ET
Art , artist, taste — are contested terms. How we define them depends on context, power, and the comparative legitimacy of social structures. Must a Cuban artist take sides in the political debate in the United States in order to attract an audience? Are artists conforming to what their public expects “Cuban” to mean? Moderator Silvana Paternostro leads a discussion with artists Arturo Cuenca and José Bedia. The program includes a slide show of their work.
