Kicking off Day One of the VLC Forum 2023, 2022–2024 Jane Lombard Fellow Another Roadmap Africa Cluster (ARAC) hosts Unchrono/logical Timeline Activation Chapter 2.2 New York.

Unchrono/logical Timeline Activation Chapter 2.2 New York is an exercise in “inhabiting” histories and considering history as a “resource.” In this workshop, participants engage with previous ARAC timelines,  learn about local arts education and practices throughout Africa, and are invited to create their own interpretation, and expand on timelines by adding memories, images, text, and sounds.

The workshop is developed by the Johannesburg Working Group (JWG) within ARAC. It explores radical arts education models in the service of social justice and liberation. JWG and ARAC’s collective studies focus on the concepts and histories of exile, travel, and mobility within the arts. Since its inception in 2017, JWG, along with the greater ARAC collective, has facilitated over twelve iterations of workshops, allowing participants to engage with the text already on the existing timeline through sonic interventions, poetry, imagery, and personal narratives. This workshop iteration is presented by ARAC member Lineo Segoete with Zachary Rosen.

The Vera List Center Forum 2023 is presented as part of the Center’s 2022–2024 Focus Theme Correction*. It is curated by Carin Kuoni and Eriola Pira with Camila Palomino and convened with the support of Tabor Banquer, Re’al Christian, and Adrienne Umeh.
