SculptureCenter, in collaboration with the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School, presents the second in a series of three lectures that explore how contemporary artists think about sculpture-its history, conventions, and legacies. Three artists at various stages of their careers have been invited to present their own take on art history. New York-based artist Sanford Biggers was born in Los Angeles in 1970. Influenced by a two-year stay in Nagoya, Japan, and by a multitude of cross-cultural references, Biggers’ installations incorporate the study of ethnological objects, popular icons, Dadaist strategies, and performance. He has won several awards including the New York Percent for the Arts Commission (2007) and the New York Foundation for the Arts Artist Fellowship Award in 2005.
