Women Museum Directors
May 26, 2004
6:00–8:00pm ET
The New School, Theresa Lang Community and Student Center
At a time when many art institutions are struggling for survival, women directors of some major museums are making the courageous decision to expand their institutions and build new spaces. Panelists discuss: the motivation and decision to build a new facility; choosing and working with sites and architects; fundraising challenges; the roles of boards of trustees and consultants; how to survive during construction; temporary and permanent impact on the staff and the neighbors; and the importance of forging community partnerships.
