Sometimes considered a renewable resources advocate for her enthusiasm for refuse, Phoebe Washburn makes monumentally scaled, architectonically precocious installations out of vast amounts of materials she scavenges from the neighborhoods around her apartment and studio, as well as the locations in which her sculptures are presented.

The artist was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1973, and lives and works in New York City. One person exhibitions of her work have been presented at various museums and galleries, among them Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin (2004); Neue Kunsthalle St. Gallen (2005); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2005); Zach Feuer Gallery, New York (2002, 2004); PS1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City (2004); and Rise University, Houston (2003).
