During his celebrated 40-year career, Duane Michals has tried to convey what people feel and dream rather than what they look like. He describes himself as “a reflection photographing other reflections within a reflection”, arguing “to photograph reality is to photograph nothing.” Michals has authored over a dozen books, and has been honored with numerous awards and retrospectives at major museums throughout the world.
