Takashi Murakami’s artworks draw from a number of sources that merge art history with Western and Japanese visual and consumer culture. His work draws on imagery and production of Otaku, the obsessive love for anime and manga, found in Japanese youth culture. He has widely shown across the globe, as well as curated a number of significant exhibitions. Murakami’s murals, sculptures, and large scale installation bridge high art with mass marketing. His production studio, the Hiropan Factory, not only fabricates his own work but fosters the careers of emerging artists and provides a commercial space for their work.
