Parsons Fine Arts Visiting Artist Lecture Series: Dean Erdmann

Sep 11, 2019

7:00–8:00pm ET

The Vera List Center for Art and Politics
The New School, Theresa Lang Community and Student Center
55 West 13th Street, 2nd floor, New York City

Back from summer research in Berlin at the archives of the Magnus Hirschfeld Institute for Sexual Sciences (1919-1933), Vera List Center Fellow Dean Erdmann is now continuing to develop their VLC Fellowship Project as an Urban Glass Fellow.

In this talk, they will address how the politics of place, class, and the body inform their moving image-based practice, and how narratives relating to socio-economic status, family legacy, technological feasts such as the final Apollo 17-mission, and politically conservative outlooks intersect. Looking at the Magnus Hirschfeld Institute, a particular focus will be on the relationship between primary and secondary sources in cases of absence of original material.
