Fashioning Beauty at Century’s End

May 7, 1998

6:00–8:00pm ET

The last fin de siécle profoundly altered visage and dress. Is our century ending the same way? In our countdown to a new millennium, can we look beyond the quicksilver of fashion changes for a logic that produces the looks, lines, and comportments that will add up to style and allure in a new era? Are clothes, as manufactured and as imaged, a point of entry into a changing world? Does fashion really affect our lives, our dreams, even our politics?
