Politics, Polemics and Panaceas: Can Art Really Create Change?
Apr 11, 1997

In The Spirit of Resistance is the first American exhibition of the work of Korean artist Ok Sang Lim, a leader of the Minjoong movement which arose in 1980 as a response to the suppression of political and artistic freedom by Korea’s former military dictatorship. He and his colleagues crafted art of political protest which took aim at the government’s oppressive politics.
This panel will take as its point of departure some moments in recent history when art and politics converged to apparently explosive effect.
